Nova Scotia wants you to name its new helicopters
Nova Scotia is getting a fleet upgrade and it wants your help. The province is asking for public input on something that played a key role during the 2023 wildfires. Could your idea make the cut?
The Province of Nova Scotia is getting four new helicopters to replace its current fleet, and its asking for help naming them.
The new helicopters will be Airbus H-125s, the same make and model as the current fleet––with advanced safety features.
“We thought it’d be a good opportunity to showcase our pride in these machines. Many people are happy we have them. It’s just an opportunity to name them. We don’t really know what we’re going to get, but it’ll be something we’re asking the province to give their ideas,” said Jim Rudderham, Nova Scotia fleet and forest protection director, in a recent interview with The Weather Network.

They were used heavily during the record-setting wildfire season in 2023, and can haul from any water source and drop water on fires. The helicopters are also used to shuttle crews in and out of the fire areas, and supply equipment.
People can suggest names for the helicopters online at https://surveys.novascotia.ca/NametheChoppers. The deadline is June 27.
