Toronto’s cherry blossom trees are quickly approaching peak bloom, a fleeting moment of vivid colour that brings joy to countless onlookers every year.

Toronto’s High Park is right on the cusp of experiencing a full bloom, with the colourful peak expected by next weekend.

Many experts around the world meticulously track peak blooms as the phenomenon is a reliable natural indicator of climate change. Back in 2021, the Japanese city of Kyoto saw its earliest peak bloom in 1,200 years.
Toronto has seen its peak bloom earlier than usual for the past couple of years, including this year as a result of above-seasonal temperatures throughout much of April. Cold weather can hamper their appearance and vibrance, which last occurred in 2016.
This year’s world-famous cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C., reached full bloom on March 26. The flowering trees in Tokyo, Japan, achieved the same milestone two days later on March 28, followed by a peak in Kyoto on March 30.
