Lack of snow delays BC ski resort openings: Here's what else is open in Canada

Here's the current roll-out schedule for some of Canada's premier ski resorts, but there's a catch: The weather has to cooperate.

With winter just a few weeks away, skiers and snowboarders are getting ready for what will (hopefully) be a successful 2025/26 ski season.

Looking to get ahead of the curve and book your tickets now?

Here’s a projected look at when some of Canada’s most popular ski destinations are set to open.

Rocky Mountain resorts

Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta. World famous for breathtaking views and favourable terrain, Banff Sunshine Village Ski & Snowboard Resort and Lake Louise Ski Resort opened early this year, on November 1 and November 4 respectively, thanks to some high elevation snowfall.

British Columbia slopes

Big White, B.C. Lack of snow near Kelowna, B.C. has forced the resort to delay opening until further notice. The original estimated opening date of November 27 is off the table, but another assessment will take place December 1.

Whistler Blackcomb, BC. At 8,171 acres (33 km2) Whistler Blackcomb is the largest ski resort in North America. It opened for the season on November 21, 2025.

Revelstoke, BC. Known for being home to the largest vertical drop in North America at 1,713 meters, Revelstoke Mountain Resort had originally set its tentative opening day for November 29, 2025, but lack of snow has caused that to be put on hold.

"To safely open the mountain, we require more snow coverage, especially at lower elevations. With guest safety and overall experience remaining our top priorities, we will continue to closely monitor the forecast. As soon as conditions allow, our teams are ready to spin the lifts," reads a statement on the resort's website.

Ontario's winter gems

Blue Mountain, Ontario. Ontario’s largest mountain resort is a local favourite, with things to do year-round. Ski season is expected to kick off on December 11.

Mount St. Louis Moonstone, Ontario. This popular resort is gearing up to open on December 5, 2025, but if you plan ahead you may be able to secure some pre-season deals.

Quebec's Laurentian and Charlevoix Mountains

Mont Tremblant, Quebec. A favourite for east coasters Mont Tremblant aims to start the season on November 27, 2025.

Le Massif de Charlevoix, Quebec. Le Massif is a must-see for people looking to bask in spectacular views overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Le Massif de Charlevoix expects to open on December 5, 2025.

Atlantic Canada ski season

Ski Martock, Nova Scotia. While smaller than some of Canada's other ski destinations, Ski Martock offers great local skiing with some beginner-friendly terrain. Its opening date is set for early December.

But, once again: Canada is a country with winters that can be variable, and conditions may affect when the resorts actually open for the season.
