When you can expect your favourite Ontario fruit this summer
Ontario's cold and rainy spring could impact when you see fresh fruit hit the markets this summer.
Getting Ontario fruit to our tables this summer is going to look a little different this year thanks to our cold, wet spring.
You won't see Ontario fruit farmers complaining about the change, though.
"Last year, everything was super early. I felt we were behind right from the beginning of the season," said Dan DeVries of DeVries Fruit Farm. "Now this year I find we're at a good place; we're not behind."

Late frost and early fruit flowering can be a big problem in southern Ontario, so there's often a balance between cold spring temperatures and length of flowering period during the growing season.
So, when will we get Ontario fruit on the table?
"I anticipate strawberries are going to probably be ready around Father's Day weekend. Peaches, nectarines, seven to ten days later than last year. Sweet cherries maybe this year around the 10th of July. Plums, you know, first week of August," DeVries said.
