Soaking rains in Alberta comes with storm potential on Wednesday
Alberta has seen some much-needed relief this week for the recent dry conditions and its current wildfire risk, and more is on the way with an additional round of rainfall and a thunderstorm risk on Wednesday
After a stormy Monday that generated severe weather and heavy rain in parts of Alberta, more of the same unsettled conditions are on the way for Wednesday.
Calgary, Alta., finally saw some rainfall after a dry start the month, racking up just under 10 mm. It may not seem like lots, but every bit helps to quell the wildfire threat and current dry conditions in parts of Alberta.

On Wednesday, the potential for more thunderstorms and rainfall will spread into Alberta once more, including a severe risk for some areas, ahead of an impending cooldown for the Victoria Day long weekend.
Rain and thunderstorm threat across southern Alberta Wednesday

On Wednesday, most of the province can expect 5-10 mm of rain, with a few spots possibly picking up 10-30 mm in the north and south.
The system coming in from the north may also bring thunderstorms by Wednesday afternoon. They would, however, be spread out across the province in isolated storms, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and even some hail, perhaps.
DON'T MISS: La Niña absent for hurricane season—but could lurk again by fall

Large could also make an appearance in certain parts of Alberta with decent storm energy available.
It’s hard to gauge the severity of the thunderstorms, as they are very hit or miss due to being spread out over such a large area of the province.
Our attention will also be closely locked over Calgary, where the storms could get a boost from the foothill dynamics.

Brace for some chillier weather this May long weekend
The long weekend will hit the West with a tough weather pattern, so you can expect more unsettled conditions and below-seasonal temperatures.
Thursday to Saturday will definitely be on the cooler side. Edmonton will see daytime highs around 12-15°C, down from its yearly normal of 18°C, while Calgary can expect to see temperatures hover around 12-13°C, also down from its normal of 16°C.
