B.C. heat could rival Canada’s hottest temperature of 2025

The season’s highest heat will build over parts of the province starting this weekend

Summer-like heat is on the way to parts of British Columbia this weekend as a ridge of high pressure develops over the region.

Temperatures in some areas could rival the highest readings we’ve seen anywhere in Canada so far this year.

Expect an increased fire danger as the uncomfortable heat arrives into the start of next week.

Forecasters are watching a strong ridge of high pressure that will bring hot, sunny, and dry weather to the South Coast and portions of the B.C. Interior this weekend and beyond.

This pattern will allow daytime high temperatures to push into the 30s throughout the Interior, where special weather statements are in effect for the hot conditions.

Kelowna may see several days with afternoon readings in the 30s. Osoyoos will be the spot to watch, though, as temperatures there could push 36-37 degrees from Sunday through Tuesday.

Canada’s hottest temperature so far this year was a 37°C reading in Winnipeg, Man., back on May 13. There’s a real chance at least one community in B.C. could exceed that high-mercury mark during this upcoming stretch of heat.

A period of hot, dry weather in June isn’t exactly good news for the wildfire season. The region benefits from cooler and wetter conditions around this time of year to guard against the risk for blazes later in the summer.
