Friday's severe storm risk sets the tone for Montreal's long weekend
Plan ahead for a stormy start to the May long weekend across southern Quebec, including Montreal
May long weekend across Canada is the official start to summer, with everyone crossing their fingers to be blessed with sunny, warm weather that is perfect for spending time outdoors.
A stormy setup making its way into southern Quebec from Ontario on Friday afternoon will unfortunately be what sets the tone for the long weekend ahead.

A warm front passing through Ontario and into southern Quebec on Friday will serve to keep temperatures warm as we end the work week but will also trigger a round of thunderstorms through the region by the afternoon hours.
The heat and humidity that have been building around the Montreal area over the past few days will increase the risk for severe storms to develop over the city, with large hail and heavy downpours being the main hazards.

The timing of these storms could also impact people's commutes home from work and school.
Sadly the thundery activity won't end on Friday, as Saturday will feature yet another storm risk—this time being more widespread.

We could see another round of strong thunderstorms develop around Montreal late Saturday morning, which will trek up the St. Lawrence by lunchtime.

Southeastern Quebec could also see scattered storms pop up throughout the afternoon on Saturday.

Scattered showers are expected to continue for the remainder of the weekend as temperatures begin to drop following Saturday's stormy weather.
Some regions could see up to 75 mm of rainfall by the end of the long weekend, which will certainly put a damper on any festivities.

Drier areas could see some sunshine poking through the clouds at times, but mostly cloudy conditions are forecast to prevail.
