Heat warnings remain in place for another day

After a day of high heat on Wednesday, hot temperatures will continue through the day Thursday, with daytime highs near or above 30°C.

This heat is attributed to a high pressure system in the northern U.S., which is drawing warm air into the region.

Heat warnings span the province urging residents to take the necessary precautions with this early season blast of warmth.

"Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness," says Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in the warning.

Those in the warned regions are also advised to take the following precautions:

  • Consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day.

  • Take frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in cooled indoor spaces where possible.

  • Drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages to stay hydrated.

  • Check for your children or pets before you exit your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time.

Temperatures will start to cool later on Thursday as a cold front moves eastward across the province.
