Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a frost advisory for portions of northern Ontario through the overnight hours Thursday into early Friday.

This includes the communities of Timmins, Kapuskasing, and Armstrong.

“Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops,” ECCC said in the alert.

Thursday night’s low temperature is expected to dip to around 1°C in Timmins, where the season’s average last frost occurs around June 7. It’s not uncommon to see readings dip close to or below freezing after that date.
