Severe thunderstorm threat bubbles up over Quebec and New Brunswick
Thunderstorms expected in parts of Eastern Canada as this first week of June wraps up
Parts of Quebec and New Brunswick could see thunderstorms on Thursday, driven by warm temperatures and increasing atmospheric instability.

Rising heat fuels thunderstorm risk on Thursday
Hot temperatures on Thursday will add instability and energy to the region, increasing the risk of showers and thunderstorms across the Eastern Townships, Gaspésie, and much of New Brunswick. Severe thunderstorms are possible, with strong wind gusts, heavy rain, and quarter-sized hail as the primary threats.
Thunderstorms will likely develop in northern New Brunswick and Gaspésie early in the afternoon.
Later in the evening, a frontal system is expected to move south, bringing the risk of stronger storms near Fredericton around dinner time.
Fredericton and Moncton may also see their first 30°C day of the year.
Wildfire smoke lingering in the area could reduce the intensity of thunderstorms and slightly lower expected temperatures, however. Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts and stay prepared for changing weather conditions.

By Friday, as the front weakens and pushes south, the southern Maritimes could experience light showers and isolated rumbles of thunder.
Wet weekends continue
Another wet weekend is on the way as a low-pressure system moves into the Maritimes on Saturday, eventually reaching Newfoundland.
New Brunswick is expected to see the heaviest rainfall, with totals ranging from 20–40 mm. Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland can anticipate between 10–30 mm of rain.
