Tornado warnings continue in northwest Ontario amid severe storms
Stay aware of rapidly changing conditions even as you wind down for the evening
7:29 p.m. CDT - Severe thunderstorms prompted a tornado warning in northwestern Ontario on Sunday evening.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a tornado warning for the following areas in northwestern Ontario:
Savant Lake - Sturgeon Lake
Sioux Lookout - Eastern Lac Seul
In addition to a tornado, this line of storms is capable of producing damaging straight-line winds in excess of 120+ km/h.
"This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches," ECCC said in its warning.
The agency added: "Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris.”

Strong to severe storms persist overnight
Several rounds of severe thunderstorms swept through northwestern Ontario during the day Sunday, first in the morning and again in the early evening hours.
These evening storms will continue pushing east across northern Ontario after sunset, progressing across the province through the overnight hours into early Monday morning.
Any of the stronger storms that sweep through communities like Nipigon, Geraldton, Kapuskasing, Chapleau, and Timmins could pack heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts, and large hail.
