Stay alert as severe storms target Ontario, Quebec into Sunday
Localized flooding and strong wind gusts will be the predominant threats Sunday—but some rotation can’t be ruled out
The same system responsible for Saturday’s robust severe thunderstorms will shift a bit farther east heading into Sunday. A renewed storm risk is expected from the Golden Horseshoe to Quebec City.
Some areas will see the potential for thunderstorms to turn severe. The strongest storms will be capable of producing localized flooding and strong wind gusts.
Make sure you keep an eye on the radar—especially if you have outdoor plans—and stay aware of any severe weather watches or warnings issued in your area.

Sunday storm risk shifts east
High instability and ample moisture will remain in place over portions of southern Ontario and much of Quebec to end the weekend.
A cold front moving into the unstable air will spark thunderstorm development across Ontario and Quebec, beginning in the early afternoon and slowly moving east through the evening hours.

Folks from Ottawa to Quebec City will have to remain on guard for the potential for severe thunderstorms through the day Sunday.
A deep reserve of moisture in the atmosphere will make localized flooding a serious risk. Remember: never attempt to drive across a flooded roadway. It’s impossible to tell how deep the water is until it’s too late, and it only takes a small amount of moving water to lift a vehicle off the roadway.

The strongest storms will also be capable of producing strong wind gusts and large hail. Rotating thunderstorms could lead to a tornado risk in some areas, including the Ottawa Valley, and especially west of Trois-Rivières to Quebec City.
Farther south, non-severe thunderstorms are possible across the Greater Toronto Area as a lake breeze blows across the region. These slow-moving storms could produce heavy downpours and lead to ponding on roadways.
