Parts of southern Saskatchewan will also see a hefty blanket of snow as the system continues to track east across the Prairies.

Pacific moisture will collide with chilly air over the Rocky Mountains to set up the snow event, which is forecast to impact morning commutes across southern Alberta on Thursday. Be sure to check road and highway conditions before heading to work and drive with caution.

Band of heavy snow moves in early Thursday
Snow will begin along the foothills and QE2 during the early hours on Thursday. The snow is forecast to intensify throughout the morning, in time to bog down morning commutes.
A band of heavy snow is forecast north of Calgary and into Red Deer, bringing 10-20 cm of snow. Calgary itself will get away with just 5-10 cm of snow.
The band is expected to stretch across the south and into Saskatchewan through the morning, reaching just south of Saskatoon by the afternoon. Heavy snowfall rates will reduce visibility along major highways, including the Trans-Canada Highway, as well as create slippery conditions.

Forecasters are keeping a close eye on this snow band and how it will impact highway conditions.
Conditions should improve Thursday evening, although some areas of instability will linger across the Rockies. This will set up another potential for some upslope snow along the foothills, as well as bursts of flurries across Calgary into the weekend.
