Tornadic potential in parts of Quebec with severe weather setup
Folks across parts of Quebec should pay close attention to the weather on Monday as severe thunderstorms will be possible, alongside one or two tornadoes
The final days of July could get off to a stormy start in parts of Quebec as conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms, and even tornadoes, on Monday.
Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings are already in effect for several areas, with forecasters eyeing Quebec's Laurentian Mountains as the region with the highest risk for tornado development on Monday afternoon and evening. Severe storms may also produce strong, damaging wind gusts of 80-90+ km/h, large hail and heavy downpours.

Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles.
Make sure you keep an eye on the radar––especially if you have outdoor plans––and stay aware of any severe weather watches or warnings issued in your area.
Monday: Tornado threat with severe storm setup in Quebec
Thunderstorms are ongoing in the province Monday afternoon and are moving through central Quebec with multiple watches and warnings in place.

The storm system is expected to move southeast and will be north of the St. Lawrence River Monday evening and overnight.
A squall line-type of storm could bring strong 80-90+ km/h winds and embedded rotation that may produce a tornado or two, with the highest risk is in the Laurentian Mountains.

The tornado risk will diminish Monday evening.
Montreal is also included in the severe storm risk Monday night, but it has the lowest confidence in storms moving across the city.

On Tuesday, scattered thunderstorms will be possible in western Quebec.
