Here's a trick to keep ice off your porch and car
It's simple and you can use materials you already have at home.
Instagram user Krista Feather recently shared her parents’ trick to keep ice from building up on their porch.
It’s simple and, according to comments left under the video, it should work on other surfaces, like your car’s windshield.
All you do is place old towels down on your porch ahead of a forecasted storm, and then peel it off the next day.
If done correctly, the snow and the ice will peel away with it, leaving a clean surface behind.

Quick tips
It’s important you use a dry towel. A wet or damp towel could freeze to the surface you place it on, making it much harder to remove.
Keep the towels in place on your porch by securing them with rocks, bricks, or some other sturdy objects you have access to.
If attempting this on your car, place the ends of the towel inside your car doors, and tuck the bottom edge under your windshield.
Hang the towels up to dry completely before using again.
You may want to keep this trick handy, especially if you live in parts of southern Quebec and Ontario, both of which are dealing with slippery conditions this week.
Plastic sheet hack goes viral
Krista’s family isn’t the first to use a barrier to prevent snow and ice buildup on surfaces. Earlier this month, a man in Kentucky went viral for showing his method, which involved completely covering his car and porch with a plastic sheet ahead of a storm:
Comments under this video were mixed, though, with some wondering if the plastic would freeze to the surface or scratch the car.
